Company PRO flees country - with Dh500,000 and car

Man swept the safe box clean before disappearing

A Ugandan employee allegedly stole more than half-a-million and a car from his employer before fleeing the country, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On August 19, SG, 30, who worked as public relations officer for his employer, approached the company’s manager, VS, 35, South African.

“He asked me for his passport claiming that he needs it to open a bank account. I opened the safe box, which is in my office and handed him his passport,” she said.

“On the same day, I withdrew Dh510,000 from the company’s account and put the amount in the safe. On the next day morning, I came to the office and discovered that the safe was open and the amount was missing,” she said.

Police arrived and lifted fingerprints and found a couple matching those of the PRO.

The manager suspected the company’s PRO who did not come to office on the following day.

Reviewing CCTV footage, police found that the PRO left the company at around 7.30pm, holding an envelope that carried the company’s logo.

It was also found out that the employee had left the country on the same day.

The manager also discovered that the car, which was in the PRO’s custody, had also gone missing.

Later they discovered that there were traffic fines on the car which proved that it was being used by someone in the country. However, the car could not be located.

The accused was arrested and handed over to Dubai Prosecution.

The court will reconvene on June 18.
