The name was inspired by an 18th Century literary club.. The Whig Literary Club (Kit Kats-for the gentry) met in a low-ceilinged, wide room in the 18th Century. Hence, any artwork adorning the walls had to be 'cropped' or 'snapped off'. Such art work came to be known as Kit Kats, after this social club.
